At Oxfam in Nigeria, we are proud to collaborate with the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Women Affairs, in championing gender equality and fostering an inclusive work environment across Nigeria.
During our 2-day Training of Trainers workshop on "Gender Advocacy and Influencing of the Nigeria Workplace Gender Policy (NWPGP)" in Abuja, key stakeholders emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for all workers, regardless of gender, and the urgent need to protect against discrimination.
As Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, aptly stated, "Our goal is to ensure that every worker, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities and is protected against discrimination." This workshop reflects our collective commitment to advancing these goals by equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to advocate effectively for gender equality in the workplace.
At Oxfam, we believe in shaping policies and practices that actively promote gender equality and social inclusion. As our Country Director, John Makina, highlighted, "We bear the responsibility of closing the gender pay gap, creating inclusive and diversified workplaces, and promoting a gender-responsive work culture."
The policy, which has passed the validation stage, will be sent to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval, then to the Office of the President for final signing to turn it into a national policy.
Together, let's continue to drive meaningful change and empower every individual to thrive in a fair and equitable work environment.
